LEGACY

Part 2: Arise & Rebuild

(Nehemiah 2:11-17 NIV) I went to Jerusalem, and after staying there three days  I set out during the night with a few others. I had not told anyone what my God had put in my heart to do for Jerusalem. There were no mounts with me except the one I was riding on. By night I went out through the Valley Gate toward the Jackal Well and the Dung Gate, examining the walls of Jerusalem, which had been broken down, and its gates, which had been destroyed by fire. Then I moved on toward the Fountain Gate and the King’s Pool, but there was not enough room for my mount to get through; so I went up the valley by night, examining the wall. Finally, I turned back and reentered through the Valley Gate. The officials did not know where I had gone or what I was doing, because as yet I had said nothing to the Jews or the priests or nobles or officials or any others who would be doing the work. Then I said to them, “You see the trouble we are in: Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been burned with fire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, and we will no longer be in disgrace.”

(Nehemiah 2:20 AMP) The God of heaven has appointed us for His purpose and will give us success; therefore we His servants will arise and build.

Arise and Rebuild

  • Get the ______________.

(Proverbs 23:23 LB) Get the facts at any price and hold on tightly to all the good sense you can get!

  • Choose to ___________________.

(Zechariah 4:10 NLT) Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.

(Nehemiah 4:6 NIV) So we rebuilt the wall till all of it reached half its height, for the people worked with all their heart.

  • Expect ______________.

(Nehemiah 2:19) But when Sanballat the Horonite, Tobiah the Ammonite official and Geshem the Arab heard about it, they mocked and ridiculed us. “What is this you are doing?” they asked. “Are you rebelling against the king?”

(Nehemiah 4:1 NIV) When Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, he became angry and was greatly incensed. He ridiculed the Jews

(Nehemiah 6:1-3 MSG) When Sanballat, Tobiah, Geshem the Arab, and the rest of our enemies heard that I had rebuilt the wall and that there were no more breaks in it—even though I hadn’t yet installed the gates—Sanballat and Geshem sent this message: “Come and meet with us at Kephirim in the valley of Ono.”  I knew they were scheming to hurt me so I sent messengers back with this: “I’m doing a great work; I can’t come down.

  • Don’t try to ___________________.

(Nehemiah 3:5 NIV) The next section was repaired by the men of Tekoa, but their nobles would not put their shoulders to the work under their supervisors.

Rebuilding Side by Side

  1. I need others to ____________________.

(Colossians 2:6-7 ESV) Just as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him.

(Proverbs 28:26 GNT) It is foolish to follow your own opinions. Be safe, and follow the teachings of wiser people.

2. I need others to ______________________.

(Ephesians 4:16 NLT) As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.

(Ecclesiastes 4:9 NCV) Two people are better than one, because they get more done by working together.

3. I need others to ______________________.

(Philippians 2:4 TEV) Look out for one another’s interests, not just for your own.

(Nehemiah 4:19-20 NIV) Then I said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, “The work is extensive and spread out, and we are widely separated from each other along the wall. Wherever you hear the sound of the trumpet, join us there. Our God will fight for us!

(Ecclesiastes 4:12 NLT) A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.
