PERFECT PEACE

Part 5: Money Lies to a Divided Mind

December 11, 2022

(Isaiah 26:3 NLT) You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!

(Mark 4:19 NIV) The worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.

Money Lies to a Divided Mind

  • Money will make me __________.

(Hebrews 13:5-6 NIV) Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”

  • Money will make me ____________.

(Luke 12:15 NLT) Then he said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.”

  • Money will make me __________.

(Ecclesiastes 5:10 NLT) Those who love money will never have enough. How absurd to think that wealth brings true happiness!

The Effect of Always Wanting More

  • More __________.

(Proverbs 23:4 NLT) Don’t wear yourself out trying to be rich. Be wise enough to know when to quit.

  • More ____________.

(Ecclesiastes 5:11 NLT) The more you have, the more people come to help you spend it. So what is the advantage of wealth—except perhaps to watch it run through your fingers!

  • More __________.

(Ecclesiastes 5:12 GN) A working man…can get a good night’s sleep.  But the rich man has so much that he stays awake worrying.

  • More __________.

(Proverbs 15:27) A greedy man brings trouble to his family.

  • More ________________.

(Ecclesiastes 5:10 GN) If you love money, you will never be satisfied; if you long to be rich, you will never get all you want. It is useless.

Financial Peace

(Matthew 6:19-21) Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

  1. Set your heart on ______________________.

(Acts 20:35 MSG) You’ll not likely go wrong here if you keep remembering that our Master said, “You’re far happier giving than getting.”

(2 Corinthians 9:11 NIV) You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion.

  1. Set your heart on __________________.

(Luke 16:9-13 NKJV) And I say to you, make friends for yourselves by unrighteous mammon, that when you fail, they may receive you into an everlasting home. He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much. Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? And if you have not been faithful in what is another man’s, who will give you what is your own? No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

  1. Set your heart on ___________.

(Colossians 3:1-2) Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
